Michelle Obama is scheduled to visit Maine in late September to attend two fundraising events.

The first lady’s trip was confirmed Wednesday by Willy Ritch, spokesman for U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, the Democrat who represents Maine’s 1st Congressional District.

Ritch said Obama is expected to attend a luncheon on Sept. 30 at a home in Cape Elizabeth and a fundraising reception at Portland’s Ocean Gateway immediately after the luncheon.

Both events will raise money for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

Details about the number of attendees and the cost of admission to the events have not been finalized, according to a Maine Democratic Party official.

Pingree is thrilled that the first lady is coming to Maine, Ritch said.

“We’ve certainly suggested some other things that the first lady should do while she’s here, though I think her schedule is pretty tight,” Ritch said.

The trip was confirmed only recently, he said.

The Obama family came to Maine last summer for a vacation on Mount Desert Island.
