OAKLAND — A Belgrade woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly pilfering prescription medication from a family member, police said.
The woman, Kristin French, 27, was charged with acquiring drugs by deception, a felony, and was released from the Oakland Police Department on unsecured bail, according to investigating officer Tracey Frost.
Frost said the investigation originated with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, which contacted police.
“Prescription pills were being intercepted by Kristin,” Frost said. “She was maintaining control of them.”
The pills — a medicine called Focalin that’s used to treat symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder — came from an Oakland pharmacy and were intended for someone else, who Frost described as a family member of French.
Frost said he went to French’s residence Thursday morning about 8:30 a.m. and arrested her without incident. The total amount of pills involved is still under investigation, as is evidence of whether she was selling and/or using them, Frost said.
She is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta Oct. 25.
