JAY – A New Hampshire man was in good condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon after suffering serious head and facial injuries during a motorcycle crash the day before in Jay.

Hospital officials say Timothy McDonald, 22, of Center Harbor, was listed in good condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was taken after being thrown from his 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle when it was hit by a van Monday afternoon on Route 4 in Jay.

McDonald’s motorcycle was heading north toward Wilton and was slowing down when it was struck from behind by the 2007 Dodge van, which was heading in the same direction at about 2:30 p.m., according to Jay police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier. The van was being driven by Everett Ayer, 74, of Sumner, who was uninjured, he said.

McDonald lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle as it veered across the opposite lane, and his helmet came off at some point during the crash.

The crash happened just north of where Route 17 intersects with Route 4, and speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash, Fournier said.
