WINTHROP — The 24th Annual Winthrop Sidewalk Art Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Sponsored by the Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce, the event features many high-quality artists and draws attendees from throughout the region. This year’s array of artwork has been expanded to include fabric, leather, metal, and wood, in addition to the traditional categories of oil paintings, watercolors, photography and other media.

Route 32 to close Wednesday for repairs
WALDOBORO — A portion of Route 32 will be closed Wednesday in order for Maine Department of Transportation maintenance crews to replace a failing culvert.
Crews will replace a culvert approximately three miles south of U.S. Route 1, just south of the Ledges Circle and Dutch Neck Road intersection. Traffic will be directed onto Ledges Circle in order to bypass the area.
Crews plan to close the road to through traffic at 6 a.m. Wednesday, and if construction proceeds as planned, reopen the road by 7 p.m. that evening.
Windsor to discuss floodplain ordinance
WINDSOR — There will be a public hearing regarding the floodplain ordinance and the transfer station at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Town Hall, according to the town clerk’s office.
Any-deer permit applications due
AUGUSTA — Maine game officials say the deadline is near for online applications for the any-deer permit lottery.
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday. It’s free to apply for the any-deer permit lottery, which will be held on Sept. 9.
Applicants can go to www.mefishwildlife.com and select Any Deer Permit on the top of the home page.
Plane crashes in Maine lake, pilot OK
LYNCHTOWN TOWNSHIP — The Maine warden service says a pilot is OK after his plane crashed into Aziscohos Lake and flipped over.
Spokeswoman Edie Smith of the Maine Warden Service told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that state police are investigating the northern Oxford County incident, which happened Saturday night.
Air show draws 35,000 in Portsmouth, N.H.
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — About 35,000 spectators showed up for first of a two-day air show, featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease.
Foster’s Daily Democrat said many people attending the show were pleasantly surprised to not have to sit in traffic to get into Saturday’s show.
