COLCHESTER, Vt. — The following local high school students were awarded the 2011 Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience:

Alyssa Brochu of Augusta, a student at Cony High School; Rachel Wacome of Sidney, a student at Messalonskee High School; Kevin Zembroski of Farmingdale, a student at Hall-Dale High School; Andrew Slade of Gardiner, a student at Gardiner Area High School; Paley Sweet of Hallowell, a student at Hall-Dale High School; Kathryn Ventrella of Fayette, a student at Livermore Falls High School; Jared Diou-Cass of Manchester, a student at Maranacook Community School; Sarah Adams of Readfield, a student at Maranacook Community School; Tyler Reeve of Winthrop, a student at Winthrop High School; and Paige Wood of Winthrop, a student at Winthrop High School.

The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in volunteer service and academic achievement. Saint Michael’s, located in Burlington, Vermont, one of America’s top 10 college towns, was founded on the belief that serving others is part of its Catholic tradition, and through the award seeks to honor those who demonstrate the true spirit of volunteerism.

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Megan Elise Dickey of Gardiner, Maine, daughter of Jon and Sara Dickey, and a student at Gardiner Area High School, was named the 2011 recipient of the Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience.

The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in volunteer service and academic achievement.

AUBURN — Taylor Scott of North Monmouth, a graduate of Monmouth Academy, received a $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarship from Mechanics Savings Bank.

Scott ranked fifth in her class and was an active member of the Key Club and a member of the Prom Committee. She was also a member of the basketball, dance, and tennis teams and earned the MVC’s Tennis 1st Team and All-Academic honors as a senior and was awarded the Betty S. Davis Senior Athletic Award. Scott also helped organize the Senior-to-Senior Valentine’s Day Tea.

Scott will attend the University of Maine in the fall, majoring in sociology.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Michael J. Johnson of Readfield, Maine, has been given the Outstanding Sophomore Award from the Case School of Engineering, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

The award is based on academic achievements and is given annually to students with the best academic results by The Case Alumni Association. A monetary award was also given.

Johnson is the son of Mary and Joe Johnson of Readfield.

At the university, Johnson is treasurer and event coordinator of Phi Gamma Delta, Crew Team coordinator, and Crew Men’s team rower. He is currently doing a summer engineering internship at Microptix Technologies in Wilton, Maine.

KEENE, N.H. — Taylor Mitchell, a recent graduate of Keene State College with dual majors in history and holocaust/genocide studies, has been accepted into a volunteer program in Ecuador.

In Ecuador for six months, Mitchell will teach young children and perform community projects in both the Andes Mountain and Amazon regions of Ecuador.

Mitchell is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Mitchell of Winslow, Maine.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Southern Maine Community College has announced its spring semester dean’s list.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Joseph Davids of Kents Hill, Maine, received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Allison Putnam, class of 2013 at Skidmore College, has received honors for the spring semester.

She is the daughter of Roger and Sally Putnam of South China, Maine.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — Margaret Cates of East Vassalboro, Maine, recently received a bachelor’s degree in German from the State University of New York.

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Three Maine students have received honors for the spring semester at Connecticut College.

They are Benjamin Cheung of Farmingdale, class of 2012, and Emma Kammerer of Hallowell, class of 2014, both named to the dean’s honors list; and Evert Fowle of Vassalboro, class of 2014, who was named to the dean’s high honors list.

WATERVILLE — Colby College has announced its recent graduates.

Local students are:

Samantha E. Fairchild of Monmouth, daughter of Thomas and Ann Fairchild of Monmouth, majored in international studies. She is a graduate of Monmouth Academy.

Jennifer L. Babb of Augusta, daughter of Michael and Elaine Babb of Augusta, majored in French studies and graduated with dean’s list honors. She is a graduate of Cony High School.

Heather E. Pratt of Chelsea, daughter of Paul and Jerriann Pratt of Chelsea, majored in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies and English and graduated with dean’s list honors and distinction in both majors, and honors in women, gender and sexuality. She is a graduate of Cony High School.

Allyson M. Cheever of Augusta, daughter of David and June Cheever of Augusta, majored in biology. She is a graduate of Cony High School.

Nikole E. Busmanis of South China, daughter of Andis and Karla Busmanis of South China, majored in philosophy. She is a graduate of Erskine Academy.

NORTON, Mass. — Emily Boccia of Augusta, Maine, has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Wheaton College. Boccia is a member of the class of 2013.
