FARMINGTON — Police have identified a 12-year-old girl from Connecticut as the person killed this morning in a crash between a tractor-trailer and a minivan along Route 2.

Killed was Tess Meisel, of Westport, Conn., who was sitting in the rear of the van, according to Maine State Police.

Two other children sitting in the van, along with both drivers, were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The two children are 15-year-old Samantha Hollender and 13-year-old Samantha Gaivao, both from Connecticut, The van driver was identified as 23-year-old Charles Powell of Colebrook, Conn.  

The van is owned by a Y camp in Colebrook and was traveling from Acadia National Park to a park in Vermont, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Charles Willey, 53, of Dexter. The truck, owned by Linkletter Trucking of Athens, was loaded with sawdust.

The accident, which happened at about 9:20 a.m., closed down the intersection of Main Street and Farmington Falls Road.

The tractor-trailer had tipped over onto its side on Farmington Falls Road, which is also Routes 2 and 27, spilling sawdust onto the nearby grass. Emergency responders used heavy equipment to extract one person from the tractor-trailer.

State troopers and Farmington Police are investigating the crash.
