In his column of Aug. 16, David Offer raises yet again the accusation that by ending same-day voter registration in the state of Maine Republicans are attempting to “disenfranchise” voters.

Be this a plot, and a foul one it must be, there is a way to foil it (curses!!). There are 10 weeks between now and Oct. 27, the last day to register under this new law.

Sometime in the next 10 weeks, each person who needs to should find (at the most) three hours out of their day or evening, get to the town hall and register to vote.

Plot foiled — that was easy.

(By the way: Massachusetts and New York end voter registration 20 days before election day.)

Speaking just for myself, I would be interested in knowing whether or not Offer took the time to contact Charlie “The Repairman” Webster before accusing him of making “wild allegations” of voter fraud.

I think not, because if he had, I am sure Webster would have gladly furnished him with a list of the 206 (at the time) under investigation. Does Offer believe that Webster would make such accusations without some solid facts to back him up?
