LEWISTON — A 22-year-old woman has been missing since July 1, when family members say she was getting ready to attend a Fourth of July party with family and friends in Rangeley.

Christiana Melusine Fesmire was last seen at a friend’s house in Lewiston, and her family and friends have not heard from her since, according to Deborah Fesmire, her mother.

Lewiston police are investigating the report as a missing person case, but the circumstances of the woman’s disappearance have not been ruled suspicious yet, according to police Lt. Mark Cornelio.

Investigators have not received any information that suggests the woman was kidnapped, the victim of a crime or some other foul play, Cornelio said.

Deborah Fesmire described her daughter’s disappearance as uncharacteristic, regardless of the circumstances. Her daughter always kept in touch with family and friends, and it is unusual for her to have gone nearly two months without a phone call, email, letter or other communication, she said.

“This is very unlike her; if she was going to leave we would know where she was going,” her 60-year-old mother said Friday.

The missing woman’s last known address was 36 Highland Ave., Lewiston, according to Cornelio. She had moved out of that residence prior to her disappearance, and she was living for several weeks with the friends who last saw her July 1, he said.

Deborah Fesmire lives in Bremen with the missing woman’s sister, father and grandmother, she said. Other family members live in Rangeley and the missing woman’s two brothers live in Pennsylvania, she said.

Missing person flyers about the woman have been sent out across Maine, as well as to some other states, according to family members.

Christiana stands approximately 5 feet, 5 inches, has a slim to athletic build, long dark hair and blue eyes. She has a tattoo of a turntable on her right shoulder blade and a peacock feather on her right calf, according to family members.

Cornelio said anyone with information about the missing woman should call Det. Roland Godbout 513-3001, ext. 3319 at the Lewiston Police Department. They can also call their local police to report any information, he said.

When an adult — anyone older than 18 — is reported missing, but there’s no evidence of foul play, police will issue a missing person report to other law enforcement agencies, but beyond that their options are limited, Cornelio said.

In cases of missing adults that are considered suspicious, police issue the alert, but also investigate further, he said.

Adults have the right to pick up and move without telling anybody, he added.

Jessica Blackburn has been taking phone calls and emails about the missing woman from her home in Furlong, Pa., she said. Blackburn, who is Deborah Fesmire’s sister, said people from across the country are sending emails about the missing woman by using Facebook, the social media website.

Blackburn, 47, has printed 2,600 missing person flyers about her niece and shipped them out nationwide, she said. Blackburn’s 25-year-old daughter was close friends with her cousin, she said.

The disappearance has been tough on the missing woman’s family, waiting every day to hear something, Blackburn said. “It’s horrible, it’s gut-wrenching,” she said.
