Tilar J. Mazzeo, author of “The Secret of Chanel No. 5,” will speak and sign copies of her newest book Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Media Room at Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell, as stated in a news release. Mazzeo will discuss her book, read excerpts from it and sign copies for interested readers. Books will be available for purchase at the event, or you can bring your copy if you’ve already purchased one. Admission is free and open to the public.

“The Secret of Chanel No. 5,” tells story of the iconic scent (known as “le monstre” in the fragrance industry) from Coco Chanel’s early success, to the rise of the fragrance during the 1950s, to its best-seller status in today’s crowded perfume market.

Professor Mazzeo teaches British Romantic poetry, travel writing and literary theory at Colby College. She is the author of “Plagiarism and Literary Property in the Romantic Period” (University of Pennsylvania Press 2007); the New York Times best-seller, “The Widow Clicquot” (Harper Collins 2008); “The Secret of Chanel No. 5” (Harper Collins, 2010), and the forthcoming, “The Ritz at War” (Harper Collins, 2012).
