SOUTH BRISTOL — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man they believe bilked a 99-year-old resident out of $2,700 for tree work that wasn’t performed.

The victim told authorities that three young men showed up at the house in South Bristol and said they were working for the state nearby and offered to cut down six trees. Instead they cut two branches and gave the resident a bill for $2,700.

A caregiver contacted the sheriff’s office the following day.

One of the suspects had his picture taken while cashing the check at First Bank of Damariscotta on Sept. 22 and police are now trying to identify him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert McFetridge at 882-7332.
