PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has restored a director to its southern regional office on Canco Road.

Jim Dusch, the agency’s policy director, will fill the post that was discontinued in 2005. DEP Commissioner Pattie Aho said the change was made to restore leadership and improve customer service.

Dusch lives in North Yarmouth and has worked at the agency for more than a decade. He will oversee the department’s second-largest staff, after the central office in Augusta. Regional offices in Bangor and Presque Isle also have directors.

The restored position was created from existing department vacancies, so it won’t increase taxpayers’ costs. Dusch starts his new job Tuesday.
