A Shriner died Saturday following a Go-Kart accident on Main Street during the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest parade, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said 59-year-old Marvin Tarbox Jr. of Hancock died after he was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital after the accident.

Authorities said the accident occurred when Tarbox was driving over an SUV that had ramps at the front and back. They believe the front ramp failed and Tarbox’s Go-Kart flipped over before hitting the pavement. Two other Shriners on Go-Karts following Tarbox apparently hit him after his cart flipped.

Tarbox was not wearing a helmet, the sheriff’s office said.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. in Newcastle Square.

The sheriff’s office said once an investigation is concluded, the findings will be forwarded to the Wiscasset District Attorney’s Office for review, but it does not appear that criminal charges will be filed.
