AUGUSTA — The Board of Education plans to meet tonight to hear a report on enrollment and consider setting board goals for the school year.

Its proposed goals for the year include improving student achievement in mathematics and writing and helping all schools make “adequate yearly progress,” updating the capital improvement plan for facilities, and creating positive public relations.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Cony High School auditorium.

Board members also are scheduled to:

• hear a presentation on homecoming from Athletic Director Paul Vachon;

• hear a report on enrollment at Augusta schools this year;

• hear committee reports;

• consider adopting several new board policies, including polices on abstentions, meeting minutes, public participation in board meetings, board relations with the news media, adjournment of board meetings, policy adoption procedure, and board communications with school staff;

• consider approving nominations of staff for extracurricular activities at Cony;

• consider accepting $4,200 from the Cony class of 1961 to buy and install a horizontal climbing wall;

• meet in a closed-door session to discuss a personnel matter; and

• consider student and staff travel requests.ꆱ
