The residents of the town of Oakland are going to be asked to vote for a new town office/police department/fire department building combined.

The cost of this project will be more than $4.9 million, and that is not for a finished building.

We have not yet begun paying for our $12 million sewer project, and we just approved a $3.1 million biomass heating system for the school district.

Oakland has a lot of low-income, fixed-income and retired residents who can’t afford more taxes.

I believe that at this time it is too much, too soon to take on another project. If people watch the news or read the paper they can see where the economy is going, with all the large job losses and the foreclosures on properties, it’s not looking good.

Please get out on Nov. 8 and vote no. Every vote is needed, and it does matter.
