WASHINGTON — The “Saturday Night Live” star who perfected his character as “President George W. Bush” and later took his presidential act to Broadway is receiving the nation’s top humor prize in Washington.
Comedians and performers including Jack Black and Conan O’Brien will honor Will Ferrell tonight with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The show will be taped for broadcast Oct. 31 on PBS stations nationwide.
When the award was announced in May, Ferrell said he would begin growing a Twain-esque mustache for the event.
Ferrell got his start in comedy with the Los Angeles improv group, The Groundlings, where he was discovered by “SNL.” He starred for seven seasons on “SNL” and made movies including “Anchorman” and “Talladega Nights.”
