LITCHFIELD — Selectmen will hear a proposal today to upgrade the Town Office phone system by adding an additional line and providing voice mail on the Public Works Department’s number.
Town Manager Michael Byron said the town has only two phone lines now and wants to add a third dedicated to outgoing calls. Other upgrades include adding wireless headsets for the clerks and two new phones.
Byron said the upgrade will cost $5,500.
If selectmen approve the proposal from Simon Brightman, of CMC Technology Group, the money could come from the town’s capital account, or could be acquired through a lease/purchase agreement.
Byron said he favors the outright purchase to avoid an additional $1,700 charge in interest.
Selectmen will also handle two other items Tuesday:
* Resident Dan Chase is asking for four pails of sand per storm — double the current limit — from the town’s supply so he can sand his driveway and that of a homebound relative who also lives in Litchfield.
* The board will review a draft of the June 30 audit, which shows a fund balance of $1.1 million. “The town has been building that up in anticipation of weathering another couple of years of economic downturns,” Byron said.
Selectmen also will meet at 4 p.m. Monday as the Board of Assessors to consider a dozen requests for tax abatements, Byron said.
All meetings are at the Town Office, Hallowell Road. Today’s meeting is 6:30 p.m.
