TOPSHAM — Chris Hall headed in Ryan Erskine’s corner kick in the first half to lift No. 6 Messalonskee to a 1-0 win over No. 3 Mt. Ararat in an Eastern Maine Class A boys soccer quarterfinal game Wednesday.

“I thought the first 10 minutes, Mt. Ararat came out and dominated play and then I think we took over for a little while,” Messalonskee coach Tom Sheridan said. “In the second half we had chances to score.”

Messalonskee goalie Zach Sutherland made five saves. Sheridan credited the play of Wyatt Omsberg, Hall, Sutherland and Nate DelGiudice.

“Finishing sixth in Heals was a little bit of a motivational factor,” he said.

Messalonskee (11-2-2) plays at No. 2 Bangor in the semifinal round Saturday while Mt. Ararat finishes at 8-2-5.

Lewiston 3, Mt. Blue 2: The No. 8 Cougars tested the top-ranked Blue Devils in Lewiston, tying the game at 2-2 with 15:36 left on a goal from Blake Hart. Less than a minute later, Lewiston’s Mohamed Ali scored his second goal of the game to give Lewiston the win. Yusuf Yama also scored for Lewiston while Akira Teruya scored in the first half for the Cougars.

Shuaib Najo made three saves for Lewiston while Matt Crowley made four for Mt. Blue. Lewiston (12-2-1) advances to play Hampden while Mt. Blue finishes at 9-6-1.

Bangor 2, Lawrence 1: Nate Bach’s second goal of the game with 13:10 left to play gave the No. 2 Rams the win over the No. 7 Bulldogs in Bangor.

Bach gave his team a 1-0 lead with a first half goal them the Bulldogs tied the game on Tim Dudley’s goal eight minutes into the second half.

Brad Mackenzie made four saves for Lawrence while Liam Harrigan made six for Bangor.

Lawrence finishes at 8-7-0 while Bangor (12-1-2) hosts Messalonskee in a semifinal Saturday.
