State-run prison to remain open
AUGUSTA — Senate President Kevin Raye and other members of the Down East delegation won a victory Friday when the state’s streamlining commission rejected a proposal to close a state-run prison in Washington County.
BRIEFS: Benton man guilty on drug charges
AUGUSTA — A jury on Friday convicted Clifford A. Dumont II, 63, of Benton, of charges of cultivating marijuana and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Maine legalized the medical use of marijuana but it’s still contraband when crossing the secure perimeter of the state’s jails and prisons, and illegal in the eyes of the federal government.
