By the time this letter is published, I will be 81 years old, and I have two complaints to share.

As the Maine temperatures drop, the two of us spend more time in our recliners watching TV. Being a little hard of hearing, I’ve been elected the designated volume controller of our TV set.

My complaint is about the audio on all programs. First of all is the background music while the actors are talking. I keep turning up the volume to hear the conversation, but the music also gets louder, then suddenly the commercials come on and jump us out of our chairs. Hey, at our age, that’s not a good thing. Anyone else out there have this problem?

And then there’s those daily commercials about your tax problems: “If you owe $20,000 in taxes, our tax experts can get the government to settle for $1,600.”

Can this be legal?

If this is true, is it any wonder this country is in such bad shape as it is today?
