DURHAM, N.H. — The University of Maine men’s hockey team fought back from a three-goal deficit but couldn’t score the equalizer and lost to the University of New Hampshire 3-2 Saturday night at the Whittemore Center.

Maine falls to 3-4-1 overall, 3-3-0 in Hockey East play. New Hampshire improves to 4-4-1, 3-3-0 in the conference.

UNH went up 1-0 3:13 into the first period on a goal by Jay Camper. The Wildcats made it 2-0 just 25 seconds later when Dalton Speelman scored his second goal of the season.

At 7:45 of the third period, Nick Sorkin scored on the power play to give UNH a 3-0 lead.

Spencer Abbott scored for Maine at 13:50 of the second period to cut the score to 3-1. He pulled Maine within a goal at 5:14 of the third period.
