I want to thank the many daily and weekly newspapers in Maine for coming out in support of same-day voter registration.
Born and raised in Maine, and voting in Maine, I have seen first the excellent, efficient job our town clerks and election clerks perform every election day.
I’m in and out usually within 10 minutes, assuming I don’t stop to chat with the folks I’ve known all my life, including the town clerks. I believe our current system works well. It is extremely efficient, foolproof, and an excellent example of voter participation and security. It is an exemplary model to the rest of the nation.
Our state motto, Dirigo, means “I lead.” We are leaders in democracy and should stay that way. I already voted, absentee, yes on 1. I hope every other Mainer who casts a ballot this election cycle does as well.
