AUGUSTA — National Notary Public Day will be observed witha free notary public education workshop. The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Augusta Calumet Club, 334 West River Road.

Speakers will be Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr., Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn, and State Notary Officer and Director of the Division of Corporations, UCC & Commissions Cathy Beaudoin.

This workshop is not meant to replace the more detailed workshops and educational classes held throughout the year, but rather to complement them. Recent changes in notarial law will be discussed as well as a brief overview of the notary public’s duties in the State of Maine.

Questions regarding notary practices and procedures will be addressed by the main speakers. Notaries Public who specialize in areas such as Weddings and Mobile Notaries will also be available to answer questions and offer advice. In light of the law change which now requires all Maine notaries to pass an exam for the renewal of their commission, many notaries are seeking educational opportunities to review notary laws and procedures, and this is an ideal opportunity to do just that. And the workshop is at no cost to the notaries who will be attending.

The workshop is free, but registration is required for seating and materials.
