I’m writing in regard to the “Managing the herd” article in the Saturday, Oct. 29 edition. After reading, I was left wondering why there was no mention of how the coyote population directly effects the deer population.

Many of the hunters I know would attribute the coyote population a major contributing factor. Limiting the number of permits seems more like leaving more food for an already out-of-control coyote population.

It would appear that biologist Lee Kantar left out winter’s biggest opponent in respect to the low numbers we are seeing in the deer population.
