MADISON — Two people walked away from a car rollover Monday that happened after the driver tried to flick her cigarette out the window.

Katherine Tierney, 22, of Lisbon, was driving west on Golf Course Road when the ash from her cigarette fell on her shirt sleeve as she tried to throw it out the window, Madison Police Chief Barry Moores said.

As she tried to snuff out the ember, her car drifted off the road and flipped over. The 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt landed in a field.

Neither she nor passenger Micah Nichols, 29, of Madison, were injured in the crash, Moores said. He said he believed the car was totaled, though he didn’t have a damage estimate.

The crash was reported at 4:54 p.m., and Madison-Anson-Starks Ambulance Service, Madison Fire & Rescue and Madison Police Officer Caleb Blakeslee responded.

Last week, on Nov. 14, a logging truck driven by Joseph Perrault, 31, of Norridgewock, rolled over and dumped logs near the intersection of Route 43 and Old County Road.

Moores said that crash was also caused by driver inattention. He said Perrault was distracted by another car on Old County Road and drifted off the shoulder. The truck was totaled, but Perrault was not injured.
