In response to the article “Law requires chance to pledge,” (Nov. 21) I would like to offer a few additional thoughts and considerations.

We, at Manchester Elementary School, are proud of our flags. Each day, our fifth-graders carefully raise the flag in the circle in front of our school for all to see, and then they respectfully lower it at the end of the day. Our flags are present in each of our classrooms, and with the recent Veterans Day holiday, many more student-made renditions graced our walls.

I am saddened that attention was focused on one classroom and one highly valued teacher at our school. A poster of the pledge of allegiance was on the wall, and the flag, while not hanging, was nearby. The holder had been broken, and it was an oversight. The teacher alerted me, and it was repaired the next day.

We value our flags and the pledge of allegiance, and honor our country. We also value, as do all of RSU 38’s schools, the reputation of our school community, our students and our highly skilled and hard-working staff.
