It seems like just yesterday when citizens were fearing a $6 trillion debt, so it is no surprise to me that with the now $15 trillion debt, Congress faces the lowest-ever approval rating at only 8 percent.

Ordinary citizens are alarmed when they hear that the federal government is borrowing nearly 35 cents for every dollar it spends.

Most understand this is unsustainable, but feel helpless and fearful of the future of our nation. For perhaps the first time in our nation’s history, many feel the next generation is not going to be better than the current.

What must be done to put our nation back on a sustainable track? As a nation we need to compromise my friends.

To trim our deficit, our nation’s leaders need to stop politicking and come together. There may be a time for partisan politics, but now is not that time.

If our country is to prosper far into the future both parties need to make shared sacrifices. I can reason with many whom do not want increased taxes, but I can also reason with those who do not want deep cuts to entitlement programs.

Regardless of where an individual stands on the issue, we know we need to cut our deficit and we should do whatever it takes to get it done, even if that means to sacrifice our own ideals.

I still believe in this country’s greatness and I am willing to compromise to ensure its future.

I respectfully ask that we work together to get through this tough time, and to ensure a sustainable track for many generations to come.
