I have been following, with great interest, articles about Kennebec Valley Gas Co.’s proposed natural gas pipeline from Richmond to Madison. In my opinion, such a pipeline has the potential for great benefits to the residents of the communities through which the line would be built.

The price of fuel oil for heating has continually gone up in Maine and we desperately need alternative, cheaper heating resources. This pipeline has the potential for solving the problem. However, I see little in what is reported that addresses residential benefits; it mostly seems to be concerned with providing resources for business, schools, etc.

As a resident of Gardiner, I want to see our city council addressing the potential of residential customers of natural gas — a cheaper source.
