Maine Department of Transportation employee John McCormack, left, climbs onto an Augusta Fire Department ladder operated by firefighter Mike Buck at the Blaine House in Augusta on Tuesday. The bucket McCormack operated became stuck — a hydraulic line on the boom truck broke — while decorating the fir tree on the lawn of the governor’s mansion. Firefighters were able to extend the city’s ladder to the top of the tree and McCormack climbed down without injury after being stuck for a few minutes.
