RANDOLPH — An Augusta man is facing charges after allegedly calling 911 to get a ride home from police.

Julien Labranche, 59, was arrested Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct and misuse of the 911 emergency system, police said.

Maine State Police Lt. David Tripp said troopers responded near a Water Street restaurant Sunday evening for a report of an intoxicated man calling 911 from a pay phone. The man reportedly wanted a ride home to Augusta, Tripp said.

He was uncertain how many calls Labranche had made to 911, but described them as numerous.

Trooper Eric Verhille warned Labranche against using 911 for non-emergencies and left, but Verhille returned a short time later and arrested Labranche when the 911 calls continued.

“He continued calling for a ride home,” Tripp said.
