BREWER — Defending Eastern Maine Class B champion Brewer rallied from a three-goal deficit to post a 7-5 victory over Messalonskee on Wednesday night at Penobscot Ice Arena. Kyle Alexander and Tyler White scored three goals apiece for the Witches, who scored four times in the third period.

“We played extremely well,” Messalonskee coach Mike Latendresse said. “A couple of penalties brought them back in the game. We took another lead and just couldn’t hold on.”

Sam Dexter and Chase Cunningham each scored twice for the Eagles (1-1-0) while Dominic Dexter scored once. Messalonskee goalie Nate DelGiudice made 42 saves while Adam Cossette made 16 stops for Brewer (2-0-0).

Skowhegan 7, Sacopee/Windham 0: Tyler Savage scored two goals and an assist to help Skowhegan match its win total from last season.

Chase Nelson added a goal and two assists for the Indians (1-1-0), who out-shot the Wings (0-3-0) 38-7.

“It’s a good win,” first-year Skowhegan coach Jeff Fowler said. “We only had one win last year so to have that this year already is nice. We just have to make sure we are ready for better teams.”

Kyle Demchek, Casey Nader, Jake Johnson and Trey Michonski also scored for Skowhegan.

St. Dominic 5, Waterville 1: Five players scored as the Saints earned the Class A win. Spencer Martin, Kyle Holtet, Danny Nadeau, Troy Haefele and Calvin Stewart each scored a goal for St. Dominic (1-0-0). Brad Berube had two assists. Austin Christopher stopped 25 shots in net.

J.T. Whitten scored off an assist from Dalton Denis and Lance Lefebvre. Cody Thibodeau made 45 saves for the Purple Panthers (0-2-0).

Girls basketball

Madison 54, Boothbay 28: The Bulldogs used pressure defense to jump to a big lead en route to the Mountain Valley Conference win.

Lindsay Weese led Madison (2-0) with 12 points and seven rebounds while Emily McKenney added nine points and six rebounds and Melissa White five assists. Sarah Caro led Boothbay (2-10 with nine points.
