GARDINER — Police are looking for a man who reportedly pushed a woman down and snatched her purse on Tuesday.

Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said a woman called police around 6 p.m. Tuesday, after she reported the attack outside her Cherry Street home.

“The victim walked to her vehicle to make sure it was locked,” Toman said. “She alleges someone came up from behind her and pushed her down and stole her purse.”

The robber reportedly fled on foot up Cherry Street.

Gardiner Police and a Maine State Police trooper with a dog tracked the suspect, but were unable to find him, Toman said. There were no reports of a weapon, he said.

The suspect is a man, but police said they have no additional description available.

Augusta robbery investigation continues

AUGUSTA — Police have disclosed new details as they continue to investigate Monday’s robbery at a Western Avenue motel.

Augusta Police Detective Lt. Keith Brann said detectives continue to work with surveillance video to assist their investigation into the robbery, which occurred at the Super 8 Motel on Western Avenue around 1:20 a.m. Monday.

Brann said two people went to the motel desk and demanded money. Police are unsure if the robbers are men or women.

Brann did not say whether the suspects were given money or a weapon was involved.

The robbery, Brann said, is not connected to Dec. 12 robbery at the same motel.
