Ziggy Lawrence hopes to provide a merry Christmas for all during the fifth annual Central Maine Family Christmas Dinner.

“People think it’s for low-income folks, but it’s not,” he said of the yearly event. “If you’re alone on Christmas, come down and join us.”

About 200 volunteers are preparing to serve turkey with all the trimmings to 1,000 people from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 76 Industrial St., he said.

This year, through funds raised by 15 area churches, the event planners have purchased 32 turkeys, 300 pounds of potatoes, 10 gallons of gravy and more, he said.

Volunteers also will provide free transportation to anyone who calls 877-5258.

At a separate event in Farmington, a free Christmas dinner will follow a 10:30 a.m. church service Sunday at Living Waters, 547 Wilton Road. For more information, or to RSVP, contact Tammy Parsons at 491-2898.
