ESTERO, Fla. — Brian Flynn and Spencer Abbott each had a goal and two assists as the University of Maine men’s hockey team beat Clarkson 6-1 in the first game of the Florida College Classic on Thursday afternoon.

Maine will play the winner of Thursday late game between Cornell and UMass at 7:30 tonight in the title game.

Flynn scored his second goal of the season early at 8:25 of the first period to give Maine a 1-0 lead. Ryan Hegarty extended Maine’s lead when he scored from the blueline later in the period. Abbott scored his 11th goal of the season at 18:47 to make it 3-0.

Adam Shemansky and Mark Anthoine added second period goals for Maine, and Joey Diamond scored a power-play goal early in the third to push the lead to 6-0. Clarkson got on the board when Louke Oakley tippe din a shot by Alex Boak.

Dan Sullivan stopped 18 shots to earn the win for Maine. Cody Rosen and Richie LeVeau combiend for 30 saves for Clarkson.

Women’s basketball

Siena 78, Maine 51: Lily Grenci scored a game-high 20 points to lead Siena to the win in Orono. Also in double figures for Siena (2-7) was Cristina Centeno with 14 points, Maja Gerlyng with 13 and Tehresa Coles with 12.

Maine (3-10) was led by Danielle Walczak with 13 points and Samantha Baranowski with 10.

Men’s basketball

Fla. Gulf Coast 84, Maine 72: Despite a game-high 26 points from Gerald McLemore, the Black Bears fell in Fort Myers, Fla. Raheem Singleton added 12 points for Maine (6-4) while Alasdair Fraser had eight.

Fla. Gulf Coast (4-7) was led by Christopher Varidel with 20 points.

Salem State 70, Colby 57: Brian Clark scored 22 points and Nate Simpson added 19 as Salem State beat Colby.

Ben Foreman led the Mules (3-6) with 13 points. Kyle Donovan added 11.
