MONMOUTH — Selectmen have added two years to the contract of Town Manager Curtis Lunt.

The board, by a 3-0 vote, agreed on Wednesday to a contract that is expected to keep Lunt in the town’s employment through Oct. 14, 2014.

Selectwomen Colleen Fournier and Pauline McDougald did not attend the meeting. Selectmen Harold Jones, Douglas Ludewig and Timothy McDonald approved the two-year contract without comment.

The new contract, which begins when Lunt’s contract expires next Oct. 14, will pay Lunt an annual salary of $67,500 a year, the same as his current pay. The contract stipulates no raises, but Lunt will get an increase if selectmen decide to approve a cost-of-living raise to all town employees.

Lunt also will be paid $3,000 a year in travel expenses.

The contract will provide benefits provided to other department heads and three weeks vacation per year.

Lunt signed his current contract in October 2010. He will be 62 when that deal expires in 10 months.

Lunt said when he signed the contract that he might retire at its completion. The contract approved this week includes a provision that would allow Lunt to work fewer hours with a proportional reduction in wages.

“The board shall attempt in good faith to reach an agreement with the manager,” the contract says.
