Friday was Ruth Stevens’ last day in the Somerset County district attorney’s office.

She has been our office manager since 1980, when Jimmy Carter was our president.

I have never known any employee to be as efficient, competent and intelligent as Ruth. She has overseen an office that handles about 3,500 criminal cases each year with limited resources. She has done a fantastic job in all aspects of her work.

If all public employees were the public servant that Ruth is, we would never hear a complaint about state or county government.

We are very fortunate to have had Ruth working for us all of this time. I wish her a long and rewarding retirement with her husband, Lyle.

She, more than anyone I know, has earned it.
