GARDINER — A local teenager has been charged with robbing the Rite Aid on Spring Street, police said.
The 16-year-old Gardiner boy was arrested Tuesday without incident and charged with robbery and theft, according to Gardiner Police Chief James Toman.

The teen, whose identification was withheld by police because he is under 18, will be held at Mountain View Youth Detention Center in Charleston while he awaits a preliminary court appearance, Toman said.
Police said the teenager demanded drugs at the pharmacy counter at the back of the store at 9 Spring St. at 2:13 p.m. Monday.
Police did not know whether the robber was carrying a weapon, but police said none was shown.
Toman said Monday that the robber escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of drugs.
Nobody was injured during the robbery, police said.
The teen was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police did not say where that arrest took place.
“Some of the prescription drugs that were obtained (during) the robbery have been recovered and were in the suspect’s possession at the time of the arrest,” Toman said.
Toman said several town residents came forward with tips that led to the arrest.
“It appears that the robbery was carried out by the lone suspect, but the investigation is still ongoing,” Toman said. He said additional charges are possible.
Monday’s robbery was the second robbery of an area Rite Aid in less than a month. Anthony Mabe, 18, of Augusta, was arrested Dec. 12 for the robbery a week earlier at the Winthrop Rite Aid. On Tuesday, Mabe was still being held at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $5,060 cash bail.
