AUGUSTA — A Whitefield man was injured Tuesday when the dump truck he was driving overturned on an Interstate 95 off-ramp.
Danal Gerrard, 46, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center after complaining of pain, said Maine State Police Trooper Scott Duff. Police said Gerrard’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Gerrard, who was carrying a load of broken concrete from the demolition of the former Kennebec Journal building on Western Avenue, lost control of the truck around 11 a.m. as he rounded the northbound off-ramp at exit 113.
“He said the load shifted,” Duff said.
The four-axle Volvo dump truck, which is owned by Gardiner-based Steve A. McGee Construction, left long skid marks and gouges in the blacktop as Gerrard tried to keep the truck upright. Duff said the truck went some distance with the passenger’s side wheels off the ground before finally veering into the deep ditch that separates the northbound off- and on-ramps.
The truck tipped over onto the driver’s side, spilling a portion of its load across the two-lane on ramp.
“He almost made it, but it went over,” Duff said.
Police did not file any charges.
Crews were awaiting equipment to clean up the crash, including an excavator to remove the large chunks of concrete.
Northbound drivers were forced to slow in the area of the crash site, but there were no major disruptions.
The old Kennebec Journal building, at 274 Western Ave., was demolished last month so Bangor Savings Bank can be the anchor tenant at a new building there. The newspaper vacated the 50-year-old building last March and moved its front-office operations to 36 Anthony Ave. in the Augusta Business Park, in north Augusta.
