I am reminded daily the positive role young people in and from our community play.

My New Year’s resolution will be to celebrate, highlight and learn more from young people.

It might be the actions of local athletes, a drama performance, community project carried out by the technical center, spending an evening with the Jobs for Maine Graduates students, going to see what students at Good Will-Hinckley are up to or just recognizing the dozens of great things driven by young people that occur every day.

I recently saw Ricky Small on a television show highlighting his growing music career and talking about the important role the arts have played in his career.

I am reminded via social networking about those young people from our community serving our country and or furthering their studies.

I have the honor to work with young people in a variety of activities and jobs, and each time I learn something. We have many young people doing amazing things and giving back to our community.

As the parent of two young children, I strive to provide them the opportunity to see children and young adults modeling community involvement. We are never to old to learn something new, and why not learn something from a young person.
