GARDINER — Gardiner Public Library, 152 Water St., is offering a new reading program to patrons of all ages, and will also resume its weekly movie showings.

The reading program — A Year of Reading — will feature a different theme each month and a monthly prize drawing sponsored by a local business. Participants who read a book pertaining to the theme will be entered for the drawing. This month’s theme is Pet Month and the drawing will be sponsored by At Home Veterinary Care.

The movie program, Movie Theater Thursdays, will follow the theme Hollywood and the Great Depression. It will begin on Jan. 19 with a 2:30 p.m. showing of “Cinderella Man.”

Upcoming movies include “Paper Moon” on Jan. 26; “Places in the Heart” on Feb. 2; “The Purple Rose of Cairo” on Feb. 9 and “My Man Godfrey” on Feb. 16.
