FAIRFIELD — The L.C. Bates museum announces the following January activities:

* Crafts and activities are planned from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16.

* Penguin Awareness Day will be recognized from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. Participants can learn about penguins and make a craft.

* National Squirrel Appreciation Day will be Saturday, Jan. 21. Participants can learn about gray, red and flying squirrels found in Maine woods at 1 p.m. Dress warm for the indoor/outdoor program.

* A Star Party is planned for 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27. Murray Campbell, a former professor of astronomy and physics at Colby College, will be there to help view Jupiter, the Pleiades, the Orion nebula and the Moon through telescopes. Visitors can bring binoculars. A snow date is set for Feb. 3.
