AUGUSTA — When Wyatt D. Wilson crawled in the window of Lisa’s Restaurant on Bangor Street he was seeking shelter from the cold and a dry place to sleep.

At least, that’s the story he told police.

He helped himself to some alcohol, primarily Allen’s Coffee Brandy, spilled some on the pool table and then passed out on the basement floor, where an employee found him surrounded by open alcohol bottles about 5:30 a.m.

Wilson, 34, of Augusta, on Wednesday pleaded guilty in Kennebec County Superior Court to those June 6 offenses of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

He was sentenced to five years in jail, with all but 15 months suspended and given credit for seven months served. He was also placed on probation for two years.

Wilson was ordered to pay $554 in restitution, of which $304 accounts for the value of the alcohol he sampled and the bottles that had to be tossed.
