On Tuesday, Starks will hold a special vote about the ongoing efforts under way to withdraw from RSU 59.

The polling place at the Starks Community Center, formerly the Starks Elementary School, will be open and voting will take place from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Absentee ballots are available now.

Many people have given their time to research the Maine state laws governing this process and most importantly assess the educational options and opportunities that can be made available for the children of Starks.

All residents of Starks should vote on this issue of leaving RSU 59.

It is vital that every voting member of our community participate, since the law requires that this vote be a majority vote.

We are fortunate to live in a democracy, and to have access to public education for our community’s children, as well as a voice that can determine where and how that education will be delivered.

We all must remember that the democratic process is valid only when all of us do our best to participate.

I intend to make this a priority, and I hope that all voters of Starks will weigh in on this issue next Tuesday.
