PITTSFIELD — Democrat Stanley B. Short Jr. has announced his candidacy for the Maine House District 29 seat representing Pittsfield, Clinton and Detroit.
Short, 60, has worked in the labor relations department of Bath Iron Works since 2008, according to a new release about his candidacy.
Before that, he owned and operated a welding and fabrication business in Pittsfield, starting in 2002.
He began his career as welder at the S.D. Warren paper mill in Hinckley in 1976, and held numerous positions in Local Lodge 2740 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers , including two terms as president. He later accepted regional leadership positions with the union.
He was born in Waterville and is a Lawrence High School graduate.
He and his wife, Debora, live in Pittsfield; they have two children and seven grandchildren.
