I was surprised to see Errie Hasty with her walker on the front page of the Jan. 3 newspaper.

Errie, 89 years old, is one of those remarkable Maine natives residing at the Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop.

Errie was a very dedicated human services career employee. While raising her four children and living in Hallowell, she worked full time as administrative assistant for the Maine Department of Mental Health and Corrections and the Maine Commission on Rehabilitation Needs.

A strong believer in the value of rehabilitation for people with disabilities, Errie has made a great contribution to the state. She is a perfect example of independent living in practice. Errie has earned our support, and I salute her courage and conviction in bringing her need to our attention.
