FREEMAN TOWNSHIP – A Wilton woman was killed in a car crash on Sunday night in Freeman Township, police said.

The woman, Rebecca Maiuri, 20, was driving alone and died at the scene of the crash on Route 145, according to a statement released by Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Kenneth Charles.

Maiuri was driving south on Route 145 when she crashed a 2000 Buick sedan into a utility pole on the side of the road around 10:30 p.m., the release states.

Maiuri was driving at a high rate of speed and lost control of the car before the crash. The car veered across the centerline and off the road where it struck a utility pole, the release states.

Charles said this afternoon that excessive speed is the likely cause of the crash.
