MONMOUTH — Freshman Taylor Morang scored 12 points, including a crucial 3-pointer, to lead Winthrop to a 35-31 win against Monmouth in Mountain Valley Conference boys basketball action Friday night.

Morang connected on his three with 30 seconds left to put the Ramblers up by four points. The Mustangs battled back and had two chances to tie the game but couldn’t capitalize. Tyler Foster added 12 points for Winthrop while Billie Cummings scored 12 for Monmouth.

Both teams are 2-7.

Bangor 42, Erskine 39: Pat Stewart scored 22 points to lead the visiting Rams to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A win in South China. Robbie Brookings added seven points for Bangor (8-2).

Devin Duncan led Erskine (4-6) with 12 points while Tom Grady chipped in with 11.

Berwick 52, Kents Hill 46: Harry Rafferty was 9 for 10 at the line, including 7 of 8 in the key final minutes, to lead Berwick to the win at Kents Hill.

Saul Aroman had 14 points for Berwick (7-6), which trailed 19-17 at the half.

Eli Roberts led Kents Hill (3-3) with 17 points. O’Shea Bell added 15 points for the Huskies.

Winslow 62, Lincoln 50: After scoring just one point in the first quarter, the Black Raiders rallied to take the KVAC B win at home.

Trevor Lovely scored 23 points and hit four 3-pointers for Winslow (5-5). Austin Ireland had 10 points and 16 boards for the Black Raiders.

Dylan Lovett led Lincoln (4-6) with 17 points.

Leavitt 78, Gardiner 57: Kristen Anderson hit eight 3-pointers, including six in the second half, and finished with 38 points as the Hornets handed the Tigers their first loss of the season in KVAC B action in Turner.  Adriana Newton added 24 points for Leavitt (10-1), which broke open a 41-41 game when Anderson got hot in the second half.

Jenna Moore scored 21 points for Gardiner (9-1) while Katie McAllister added 13 and Paige Pillsbury 10.

Richmond 48, Vinalhaven 39: Danica Hurley scored 13 points to lead the visiting Bobcats to the East-West Conference win. Jamie Plummer added 12 points while Alyssa Pearson had 11. Brianna Snedecker had 10 rebounds for Richmond (8-0).

Alex Levensky led Vinalhaven (6-3) with 14 points.

Monmouth 44, Winthrop 23: Kylie Kemp led all scorers with 14 points as the host Mustangs earned the MVC win.

Kristine Kahl added 13 points for Monmouth (6-5).

Shauna Carlson scored seven points to lead Winthrop (0-10).
