ORONO — The University of Maine women’s basketball team earned its first America East win of the season, beating the University of Vermont 70-60 at Alfond Arena on Monday night.

Samantha Baranowski scored 18 points, including 10 from the free-throw line, for Maine (4-14, 1-4). Brittany Williams added 11 points, while both Courtney Anderson and Ashleigh Robets had 10 for the Black Bears.

Niki Taylor led Vermont (8-11, 2-4) with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Bowdoin 75, UM-Farmington 39: Allie Piscina had 13 points off the bench as the Polar Bears beat the Beavers in Brunswick.

Jill Henrickson added 12 points and Sara Binkhorst 11 for Bowdoin (11-4).

Lindsay Ranquist had 10 points for UMF (4-9).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Vermont 79, Maine 65: Justin Edward scored 19 points in the Black Bears’ America East loss in Burlington, Vt.

Gerald McLemore added 14 points for the Black Bears (8-8, 2-3).

Matt Glass scored 14 points, while Luke Apeld had 13 for the Catamounts (10-10, 3-2).
