WATERVILLE — Colleen M. Lachowicz is seeking the Maine Senate District 25 seat representing Waterville, Winslow, Pittsfield, Albion, Benton, Clinton, Detroit and Unity Township.

In her announcement, Lachowicz, 47, a Democrat, said “I realize that in order to make a long-term difference we must change how the system works. If we want to lessen reliance on state programs, we have to address the needs of people before they become so great that they require these programs.”

Lachowicz has worked at Kennebec Behavioral Health in Augusta and Waterville since 1997. She has been the program director of the school-based mental health program since 2005. She manages a clinical team that works to provide necessary mental health care to uninsured and underinsured children in Kennebec and Somerset counties.

She and her husband, Ed, live in Waterville.

Tom Martin, R-Benton, currently holds the senate seat.
