I want to present a few important rules for children who want to get their driver’s licenses:

* They are not to use their cellphone at all while driving — no texting and no calling. Pull over if you must do these things.

* When stopped at a traffic light, they should not rush out when it turns green. Many drivers seems to think yellow means speed up and go though an intersection after their light has changed to red.

* They should use their turn signals even though most other drivers don’t.

* Remember Maine has laws that require the use of headlights whenever the vehicle’s wipers are on.

* When passing a vehicle in the breakdown lane, they should pull into the far lane when possible.

* They should be courteous; it’s contagious.

Who knows? Perhaps more people will see these young people driving like this, and someday the roads will be safe for our children.
