Woman safe after smoke fills home

SOLON — A bed-ridden woman was OK after her mobile home filled with smoke and she called 911.

Fire Chief Ronald Brown said the damper in the wood stove at the 3 Drury Lane home had been closed too tightly. Firefighters hooked up a fan to get the smoke out of the home, and the woman was fine.

Brown spoke on the phone Wednesday morning while he was at the scene of an accident involving a town highway truck. The plow truck slid backwards down French Hill Road around 5 a.m., struck a ditch and tipped on its side, he said.

Though the truck was slightly damaged, the driver was not injured.
